I can't believe I haven't posted about the progress on our house since February. You can
click here to see the VERY beginning stages!
The day I posted the previous post was the day that Trevor and I found out we were pregnant with baby number 2 and quite a bit has changed since then. Initially we had designed the house to where we were only going to finish out 2/3 of the house right now because we wanted to pay cash and finish the rest as we saved up the money. But, since we found out we have another human on the way, we needed to actually finish out the house to its entirety. So when push came to shove, we did have to take out a small loan, but our goal is to have it paid off in 5 years. So our debt free goal will be achieved in 5 years! WAHOO!!
Here we go:
First I'll start with the plans.
Trevor worked EXTREMELY hard on this! We probably went through 20 different variations of this until we found the perfect one for us. Trevor first drew this up on a napkin and then switched over to Excel so we could make everything to scale and worked hours....HOURS!!!!! on this! Here are a few notes about the house. The right side is kind of the "kid side." From top to bottom we have our front door and HVAC area, hall closet, laundry room, kid bathroom and two kid bedrooms. The middle section from top to bottom is our living room, dining room and then kitchen which has a 12 foot glass window with 2 sliding glass doors that open in the middle creating a 6 foot opening to our patio/outdoor living space. The left side from top to bottom is our guest bedroom/office/extra room, master closet, master bathroom and master bedroom. One of the features I am so excited about is the door in our bathroom that goes outside. Most people are confused by this, but I think it's brilliant. We have a hot tub which is going to be located right outside that door, so this creates easy access to and from the hot tub with a great place to hang our towels and bathing suits right there in the bathroom. We also have two dogs who are known to get muddy and dirty often, so this door gives us access to throw them in the shower if they are muddy and need a bath. Then, when our lab is soaking wet, he has easy access back outside to dry. Genius I tell ya! Our dog area will located right outside that door so when we have company over, they won't be jumping at one of the main doors or getting our nice big patio dirty.
Here are some picture updates in order from the last time I posted:

This frames the middle section of our house. |
We have cows on our property, so it's kind of a pain in the butt to get to our house right now. You turn onto our driveway, drive about 80 yards then have to open a heavy gate and unhook the hot wire (drive through and then hook it all back up so the cows don't escape). Then you drive about 200 yards or so and you are actually approaching our house. We have two fences/hot wires circling our house to keep the cows out of where we are building. So you have to stop again and move the hot wire, drive about 30 more yards and open a gate THEN you come to our house! BIG pain in the butt!
That was part of the reason for this purchase!...
Now we can cut through the pasture to get to our house from Trevor's mom's (where we are currently staying).

March 26th - Footings poured and the middle section marked off. |
This is looking to the west at our house and you can see part of our driveway. |

Looking down our driveway |
We will eventually have a detached garage right where the rock starts in this picture. |
Since we won't have a garage for awhile, Trevor bought a shipping container to act as a garage. Right now it houses everything we own that we aren't currently using at my in-laws. It will eventually just hold Trevor's hunting stuff, tools, lawn mower, etc. |
We have picked out lighting...this is the one I'm most excited about. This will be our dining room "chandelier" |
These next few photos are not photos of our house necessarily, but they are things that we are working on for our house. After looking for days for bathroom vanities, we didn't really see anything we loved for the price we wanted to spend. So, Trevor decided to build our bathroom vanities.
Using his new tool belt I gave him for Christmas. :) |
The building part is finished, now time to pick out a stain and faucets! |
I love that these are custom pieces. We built two this size for our bathroom and we will build a larger one that will have two sinks for the guest/kids bathroom. |
April 19th - Concrete poured.
April 21st - We got a ton of rain and we ended up with a pond close to our front yard! Trevor actually wants this to be a pond eventually...but it was gross looking after all the rain. |

May 4th - Our builder took these neat aeriel views of our house and land. |
Brooks is such a big help! :) |
May 5th |
Getting the framing and windows in. |
May 6th - This is part of our land. You can see our driveway on the left leading up to our house. The huge area of dirt is where the Muskogee Turnpike construction company is dumping dirt. When they are finished they will seed it and it will be a beautiful pasture. So excited for that day!! |
It's amazing how the trees block all the noise from the Muskogee Turnpike. |
May 8th - Working on the roof and outside |
May 8th - I absolutely LOVE the color of the outside. This was obviously a huge decision and I couldn't be more happier. The color is called Burnished Slate. It's kind of a mixture of charcoal and brown. |
May 14th - Front of the house or back...however you want to look at it. Loving those big sliding glass doors. |
And I love those added windows up top since we have 18 foot ceilings in this area. |
May 17th - this is actually our "front door" but it's on the back of our house. When you build in the country, you can do what you want! :) |
Those upper windows on the sides will add so much natural light in this main area. |
This is looking east. That door is the door that leads to our bathroom. So the two long skinny windows are our bedroom windows and the one on the left is the guest bedroom/office window |
May 17th |
May 23rd - ...these cows...always in the way. |
May 26th - more aerial views. To the right of our driveway you can see a little clearing in the trees; that is where our shipping container/make-do garage is. I love that we can't see it! We have cleared out a large enough area that we can drive our cars around to that area if we need. |
May 26th - We had a date night and made the house our own! |
June 29th - This is my favorite part...picking out the fun stuff for the house! Our shower will be this wood, the accent in the middle will be the glass and stone mixture and the floor will be the rock looking stuff. I can't wait to see it installed! |
June 30th - There are a couple things to note in this picture. The first being our spray foam insulation. Wahoo, things are moving right along! The second thing to notice is the floor. This picture does not do it justice, but we decided to go with stained concrete floors. We did a mixture of grey and brown and I LOVE it!! |
That is all the pictures I have so far. Things are moving right along and we should be able to move in mid-August if we don't experience any major hiccups. This week we are having dry-wall installed, so things will REALLY look different then! We also picked a stain for our bathroom vanities that I am excited to show off! Stay tuned for more coming soon...
